英文筆記《一》

1. It cracks me up. (某事)笑死我了
2. She's cracking up over there.她笑翻了
3. I cracked myself up. 我笑翻了
4. Foot the bill 是 “付賬” 的意思
5. blow-out 指 “規模很大的聚會”,“汽車的輪胎炸了”
6. hook, line and sinker 和 lock, stock and barrel 一樣,是"全部" 的意思,可它帶有 “受騙” 的意思
7. Greasy spoon 指夫妻老婆的小飯館,菜色並不多,碗筷也好像不那麼乾淨,裝潢不講究,但菜的味道倒不錯,價錢也公道。
8. take potluck with us 上我家來吃便飯.有什麼吃什麼
9. It goes in one ear and out the other.  一個耳朵進,一個耳朵出”,把它們當作 “耳邊風”
10. play by ear 已成日常用語,意思是 “做一件事不是事先有計劃”,而是 “走著瞧,臨時決定”

11. have my eggs sunny side up 只煎一面的荷包蛋
12. two fried eggs, over easy and not fried too hard 雞蛋兩面都煎一下,但是不要太老。
13. In hot water 是指某人或某些人“處境困難,遇到非常麻煩的問題”
14. throw cold water on something  “潑冷水”
15. hold water 是指某人 “找的藉口、提出的理由、或者說的話,是確實的、站得住腳的”
      美國人經常說:“That excuse simply doesn't hold water.”,意思是:“那藉口根本站不住腳”
16. “water off a duck's back” 是指 “毫無作用”
17. to make my mouth water “讓我流口水”
18. “to follow your nose”意思是 “隨著你聞到的味道去找什麼東西,或什麼地方”
19. “to pay through the nose” 這是指 “付出很高價錢”
20. To be led by the nose 是一種很不愉快的經歷.意思是 “一個人全部在別人的控制之下”,             *Don`t let other people lead you around by the nose

21. Under your nose 的意思也就是“一樣東西離你很近,但是,你就是沒有看到”。
22. Pull their socks up and get back in the game. “振作起精神”,投入競選總統的運動中去
23. it'll knock your socks off!你們都會大吃一驚的
24. Poker face 的意思就是 “臉上毫無表情,不露聲色”
25. Close to the vest ,用在一般情況下,指一個人 “非常小心,不讓別人知道他在幹什麼”
26. “The shoe is on the other foot” 意思是:“形勢已經完全不同了”
27. To work hand in glove 意思是 “密切合作”
28. To keep an ear to the ground,意思是“保持高度警覺”,“及早發現即將會發生的事情的預兆”
29. Up to one's ears  “很忙” 介入這些事
30. It's a good job at that company but I hear that the boss is as hard as nails.
      (在那公司是份好工作,但我聽說老闆很難相處)

31. pig out 狼吞虎嚥、大吃特吃
32. eat up 吃光、吃完、盡情吃
33. eat out 外出就餐
34. eat like a bird 吃得很少
35. grab a bite 隨便吃幾口墊墊肚子

37. be on a diet 節食
38. staple food 主食。
39. Poser!耍大牌;

40. stingy bastard!小氣鬼;

49. Procrastination is the thief of time. 因循拖延是時間的大敵; 拖延就是浪費時間
50. have a finger in every pie 好管閒事

51. John is sure to know about it; he has a finger in every pie.
      這件事約翰一定知道,他最喜歡好管閒事。
52. There were thousands of people. The streets were "not half" (=very) crowded.
      人數以萬計,街道十分擠迫。

53. "not half bad"是指不錯、也很好,尤其當情況比想像中好。
      *This book, which is written by a rather unknown young writer, is not half bad.
        這本書是一個沒有名氣的年輕作家所寫,卻也很好。

54. from ear to ear 滿面笑容
     *“Good morning,” said Hans, smiling from ear to ear!
       ” 您早!”漢斯滿面笑容地說。

55. see eye to eye 與…看法一致
      *Unfortunately he didn’t see eye to eye with his parents and there were always arguments at home.
        不幸的是,他和他的父母意見不一致,家裏總是吵吵嚷嚷。

56. down-to-earth 腳踏實地,形容人平易近人、事實求是、很務實
      *Timothy is really down-to-earth. If you want some advice, you ought to talk to him.
        提摩西是個很講求實際的人。如果你需要一些建議,應該和他談談。

57.  Just wait and see. 咱們走著瞧
58. You’ll be sorry.你會後悔的
59. If you’re looking for a fight, you don’t have to look far.如果你想找人打架的話,不用找太遠
60. Watch your mouth.說話客氣一點
